At McCoy Jewelers, we can give you an appraisal for your insurance or selling purposes. Any pieces that are bought from our shop and worth over $1,000 receive a complimentary appraisal.
What is a Jewelry Appraisal?
It is a document that describes an item, assesses its relative quality, and assigns a value to it. Descriptions usually cover the visible, measurable, and analyzable facts about the item (like the weight, materials, markings). Most jewelry appraisals also describe subjective features such as gemstone quality, relative rarity, and overall quality of the manufacturing. These are not diamond or gemstone grading reports.
The Importance of Jewelry Appraisals for Insurance
Any time you insure something, you need proof of the item’s value and characteristics to replace it, whether with a same kind and quality equivalent or cash. This is important, especially when it comes to jewelry.
If it is inaccurate, you may not recover enough funds from an insurance claim to replace your piece.
If you have an incomplete appraisal, what you know to be your sentimental, and cherished jewelry may not be how the insurer interprets the brief description of your piece.
At McCoy Jewelers, our experts will give you a thorough description and an accurate value of your piece to ensure that your jewelry is insured for the fair and actual description and value.
Important note: Jewelry Appraisals should be updated every 5-7 years.
